Caregiver Support Group and Consultation for Advocacy and Parent Burnout with Laura Herrold Johnson, Licensed and School Social Worker

…Then support can help promote positive change and give you skills and confidence to manage the challenges of raising kids

 

With Caregiver Support, you can choose from attending groups for education and community (held weekly Wednesdays at 12pm via Google Meet), individual sessions for more personalized care, strategies and scheduling, or work with Laura to prepare for meetings with schools or other organizations in accessing support for your child. Laura is also able to attend meetings to support you and discuss proposed support and solutions with the school team.

 

About Laura

 

Laura Herrold Johnson, MSW, LSW (she/her) is a parent to three children, one of whom is twice exceptional, and has personal and professional experience in working collaboratively with children and caregivers of all ages, abilities, and intersections. She has training in trauma, advocacy, and disability justice. Laura believes all people should have access to supportive care, and her work is identity- and neuro-affirming.

 

Group

About the Group

In this 60-minute group, we’ll explore how supporting others can affect your well-being, including topics like secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and practice strategies that can help you navigate these experiences in ways that feel right for you. We’ll also make space to connect with one another, share and reflect on your family’s experiences if you’d like, and exchange resources and support.

Who May Benefit

Caregivers (parents, guardians) of students with disabilities. Supporting a child with a disability often involves ongoing advocacy throughout the school year. This group offers a space to reflect on that experience, connect with others, and navigate the challenges that come with sustained advocacy. It also focuses on Supporting well-being, building resilience, and preparing for the upcoming school year.

Individual Services

Individual sessions offer caregivers more personalized care, strategies, and scheduling.
