Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy is an evidence-based approach that utilizes an eight-phase protocol to address past memories, present triggers and future events. The therapy supports the processing of thoughts, memories and emotions that have become “stuck” in the brain’s memory due to stressful event(s). Effective treatment decreases body responses to trauma reminders, and supports shifts in positive thinking related to stressful life events.
EMDR International Association description of EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy Training with Suzi Rutti, LISW-S
Sex therapy is a therapeutic lens that focuses on sexual health or concerns. Sex therapy can be for individuals or couples and includes treatment of other mental health concerns. Some common reasons individuals seek sex therapy include: sexual shame, identity exploration or concern, sexual functioning, desire concerns, kinks/fetishes or disability impacting sex. Couples may seek sex therapy for desire discrepancy, infidelity, poor communication or sexual dissatisfaction.
Sex therapy sessions look like typical mental health counseling, it is simply an additional lens to include the importance of sexual health and well-being on overall physical and mental health.
There is no physical contact between the therapist and client during a sex therapy session.
